The History

            Nedumkunnam is a beautiful village 16 kilometre away from Changanacherry. This place intermingled with hills and rocks bushes was the abode of wild animals in two centuries ago. The Catholics of parish wished to have a convent here to teach their children reading and writing and also that they would be well founded in religious principles. It was their wish which finally brought about the starting of a convent.

           In the year 1920 a Carmelite Convent was started at Nedumkunnam. Sr. Thresia Catherine Thoppil was the founder.

The same year the CMC congregation which is founded mainly for Christian formation of people, especially women and children and started an LP school under the Heavenly Patronage of St. Teresa of Avila. In 1925 Sr. Augustina CMC was appointed as the Headmistress. In 1947 a two storied building was constructed with the assistance of the local people. In those days the shift system existed in class I and II .

               In 1947 Sr. Felix CMC took charge as the Headmistress. Thereafter Sr, Carmenitta CMC, Sr. Annie Maria CMC, Sr. Stephen CMC, Sr. Grace CMC, Sr. Ancy CMC, Sr. Christy CMC, Sr. Rose Maria CMC, Sr. Mercy John CMC held the office in succession. At present Sr. Celin Jacob CMC is the Headmistress.

                The school has gained creditable achievements in fields of sports and games as well as cultural activities. Many times it has been the top scorer in the interschool competitions. The school was chosen as the best LPS in the Corporate Management, Changanacherry in the year 1986-87. In the year 1987-88 and 1990-91 it stood best in the Karukachal sub district.

                Since the existing building was insufficient to accommodate all the children , a two storied building was constructed in the year 2009. The management, P.T.A and H.S made their generous contribution for the same. 2009 being the 90th year of its establishment the building remains as a memorial of the same. On 21st January 2009, the inauguration of the celebration marking the 90th year of the establishment was done by His Grace Mar Joseph Powathil.

              In 2008-09 the school was chosen at the best LP School and its PTA as the best in Corporate Management. In 2009-10 the same honour was again conferred on her. In the same year it was elected as the best LP School in CMC management. By now the school was able to be rid of the shift system existing for 90 years. As a result three more posts could be added in the school.

          As we look back over these 91 years our hearts go out in gratitude to all those who helped in making St. Teresa’s a better place to live in. We hope and pray that God may continue to bless our endeavours to build a better world. We thank God Almighty for His beautiful blessings and also St. Teresa our Patron.
